it would be nice to bind the AutoFile configuration to the bibliography.
This makes possible not to mix all files when working on separate projects.
This is especially true when one is working on several topics at a time,
and for each the bibliography is large, which is also when BibDesk gives
most benefit.

Is it not possible to put the name of the bibliography file (ie
namehere.bib) in the path to your autofile, then the papers for each would
be in a subfolder?

I think that adding
%b/

to the front of your autofile string might work, even with a globally
fixed location.

Or try the "relative to each document" option for the autofile location in
the autofile preferences, that might give you waht you want (and have a
read of the help on autofile, it's quite good).

Christiaan seems to have interpreted this as a request for a separately
customizable string for each file, not just a different location. Maybe
that's what you meant, in which case, what he said.

Rejected. This is a system preference, and making it a per-file preference
would be far to messy.
