I've just joined a new company and I'm creating a Mind Map of all the places to find information. Very handy ... Thanks!
I need to hyperlink to intranet (http:), local and network drives (file:), subversion (svn:) and Outlook IMAP folders (outlook:). AFAIK FreeMind does not support Outlook or Subversion .
I've found that Firefox can do these because it supports customizable hyperlink protocols. I think this would be a very valuable generic extension to FreeMind. You can probably have a look at the FireFox code to see how they did it.
Type a link like this into firefox and it will prompt you to associate the "outlook" protocol with an application that it determines is probably MS Outlook.
outlook://Public%20Folders/All%20Public%20Folders/Shared/My%20Shared%20Folder
For more details see:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Register_protocol
That's a good idea, please add a 'callto:' to the lot, if it's not too hard to code, as it's nice to store phone numbers and email addresses in FreeMind, but only the latter can be exploited with a 'mailto:' link.
Bravo for FreeMind, it has changed my life, really!

have a look at tracker 1889293
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=307118&aid=1889293&group_id=7118
for a patch which provides exactly that.
Once the patch
Support for arbitrary URIs
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=307118&aid=1889293&group_id=7118
is implemented, there will be no need to provide a group of settings for various protocols directly in FreeMind: what application should be opened for what protocol is managed by the operating system. The patch makes sure the URL containing an arbitrary protocol is actually passed to the operating system, rather than cought by FreeMind as malformed.

I'm wrapped. Thanks so much for this!
I really think this simple change lifts FreeMind to a whole new level.
