I am getting this problem as well with the 0.73 version of
the module. I added an extra debug line to get the contents
of $!, on the first connection attempt, it is empty other
then the location, subsequent connection attempts results in
the following output. Don't know if it is too terribly
helpful. Everything worked when I switched to 0.63. I will
probably look into this more when I have more time, I've
been rather busy with an opensource project I'm involved with.

This is really weird, as Net::IRC 0.70 hasn't caused us (the developers)
any server-connection problems at all. If anyone out there has this
problem, sees this, and really knows perl debugging, maybe you could step
through Net::IRC 0.70 at this point and see what's up? I'd do it myself
but I have never seen this problem...

Perlbot with Net-IRC-0.63 works !! (Slackware Linux 7.0 with Perl
5.005_03) .. I think Net::IRC
0.70 has a bug..
