5 Close any open COM port before exiting - ID: 2083181
Last Update: Comment added ( crun )

I’m trying to migrate from TeraTerm to RealTerm (2.0.0.57), because TT
leaves COM1 locked up if you close it without closing a capture file (the
only known recovery being to disable and then re-enable the COM port, with
two reboots).

I find RT to have a similar problem (and no provision for closing the port
explicitly), but have recovered by using the command line:
> realterm FIRST PORT=9 QUIT
This is less messy than TeraTerm, but still untidy.

Please get RealTerm to clean up after itself. Thanks!

Realterm goes to some considerable effort to close ports before exiting.

I think that your problem may lie outside Realterm or Teraterm

The [Open] button in the {Ports} tab indicates the port's state (Out =
Closed, In = Open). I was mistaken that there is no provision for this. The
workaround mentioned in the Summary is not necessary if the button is
pressed. This does not obviate cleanup, but does free a port for other
applications (before RealTerm is closed).
