0) #2010298 is a duplicate of this bug.

1) As I encoutered the problem too I dug it :
$ file translations/French-UTF8.txt
translations/French-UTF8.txt: Non-ISO extended-ASCII English text, with
very long lines
So : first problem, Gérard Delafond didn't used an utf-8 charset to edit
the translation.
Edit with nano and look the "é" of his name.

2) Second problem (the core problem) : from what I saw in
include/translate.php, we put the
"translate ( 'French' ) . ' (UTF8)' => 'French-UTF8'" in $languages of
define_languages : good
2")Notice that if we want to normalize the name it should be french_utf8
as the others languages
3) BUT .... we missed the 'fr-fr' entry in $browser_languages !
and it SEEMS that fr-fr is send with a utf-8 configuration (at least with
(my) firefox)
I was not able to install WebCalendar with my default browser encoding but
adding :
'fr-fr' => 'French-UTF8', in $browser_languages did the trick.

4) I don't see where the . ' (UTF8)' is used and, I'm not sure, but I
think that $HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE should only be used to know the language
and not to confuse it with encoding ($HTTP_ACCEPT_ENCODING).
Because using fr-fr as utf-8 appears to works but I feel it a bit tricky.

If you search the french web, this problem seems to often appears, would
be nice to correct it.
(last thing : I did my tries on the 1.2b1 but I downloaded 1.2.0 which
doesn't appears to change a lot translate.php)
