5 Linux: sound does not compile / work - ID: 1934959
Last Update: Comment added ( prattp )

Sound does not compile by default.

By adding "#include <alsa/asoundlib.h>" to src/PLATGLUE.h and "-lasound" to
the Makefile, it compiles.

However, the sound does not work. The console says:

pcm start error: Broken pipe
pcm start error: Broken pipe
pcm start error: Broken pipe
pcm start error: Broken pipe
pcm start error: Broken pipe
pcm start error: Broken pipe
pcm start error: Broken pipe
pcm start error: Broken pipe

This is on the Linux version on both 3.0.4 and the latest 3.1.0 snapshot.

(using the '-sound 1' option is reported to have fixed the problem.)

Yes, sound is not enabled by default in the Linux version
specifically because of doubts that it will work across all
linux distributions. (Some of which might not even have
ALSA installed.)

To turn sound on, use the '-sound 1' option
('http://minivmac.sourceforge.net/doc/options.html#option_s')
in the build system.

If that doesn't work, let me know what distribution
you are using.
