very good news. I'll give it a try in the next couple days. I wonder why
you had to wait for the patch for eog, AFAIK animation has been implemented
in gthumb for some time. Couldn't you sneaked a pick there?

I already feel like spamming, but I have fixed the memory leak and updated
the patch. It further reinstalls the timeout after every frame for images
that have differetn frame delays.

However I can't attach it, and there still is a memory leak. You can get
the buggy version here:

I just had a quick look at the problem and thanks to Luo's patch of eog
(http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=335093#c19) was able to add
animation support.

perhaps you're right about rareness of animations, but I kinda think that
this is true for 50% of formats GPicView supports. And it is always sad
when you see that your favorite software lacks some feature. Personally I
had only one task for which I needed to display animated files: animated
weather maps which I'm pulling with gkrellm. I needed something
lightweight, unfortunately GPicView doesn't work for me here.

I can't speak for the devs, but I would say APNG's not the most likely
thing in the world(but you never know). GIF is, I believe, usually
implemented anew in each program that supports it, so the lack of animation
there is more likely due to a low priority(you don't really see them that
much these days).

biotube, does your comment mean "it is not going to happen"?

APNG would require that gpicview implement its own libpng(increasing its
weight), since the devs there refuse to support it(they prefer MNG, despite
that format's lack of usage; they claim that animation violates the purpose
of PNG).
