5 The input line is too long - ID: 1899197
Last Update: Comment added ( manningr )

After installing the snapshot, launching Squirrel from the bat file gives
the error:

The input line is too long
The syntax of the command is incorrect

Reinstalling 2.6 doesn't seem to repair the situation, even after removing
the .bat file. Strange because I installed 2.6 just before and it didn't
break anything.

I managed to reproduce the problem after all. The issue is with
squirrel-sql.bat and how it builds a CLASSPATH. It contenates the full
path of every jar in the SQUIRREL_HOME/lib directory and sets the CLASSPATH
environment variable. On Windows 2000, the variable value length is small,
and so the CLASSPATH exceeds this length. We recently added new library
dependencies and I believe that put us over the top. I worked around this
limitation by installing in c:\sqrl. I searched google for a while and
lots of folks have hit this problem, but no one has a really good solution
for it. So I'm inclined to leave this the way it is for now.

The installer is not designed to install overtop of existing
installations. The new software update feature will allow for safe
in-place updates.

Ok wierd, I blew it away the directory and reinstalled and everything was
ok. I think the installer has major problems overwriting old versions.
