5 Memory usage up to 380MB - ID: 1892318
Last Update: Comment added ( nobody )

I installed Launchy 2 on both my desktop and notebook and on BOTH it is
consuming up to 380MB! Both machines have 2GB of RAM and are running XP.
Ive tried reinstalling and it doesnt help. When started it is about 10MB
and slowly works up to about 380MB over about two hours - During that time
I only use it 2 or 3 times. It is also only indexing my start menu and
thats all I use it for..

-Windows XP
-Eset Nod32
-Comodo Firewall
-Launchy 2.0

I think I've found at least one place where the memory is leaked.

Every time you rebuilt the catalog the memory usage increases. I'd say
that if you deactivate automatic updates the memory wouldn't go up.

You can try yourself opening the Windows Task Manager and selecting the
Launchy process.
Right click in the Launchy window and select "Rebuild Catalog" a few times
you will see in a few seconds how the memory usage increases and increases
every time you repeat it, ... definetely a memory leak!!! it seems it
doesn't free the previous catalog scans.

https://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=2083454&forum_id=451016

The author of this thread posted a launchy.ini file which allegedly fixes
the problem. This should make the problem easier to track down.

My launchy goes up to 1.5 Gigs of memory. This is a nasty leak, and there
are multiple bugs open about it as wells as forum topics. Please stop
ignoring the problem!

I use Launchy on WinXP Pro SP2 and it bloats within a few uses. I've
disable all the plugins, which makes it less than usable, but get the same
results. If I let it go, it will bring the system to it's knees (core duo
2.0Ghz/2GB RAM). I've seen it exceed 600MB of RAM usage.

This looks like a memory leak to me which, in my experience as a developer
(non-windows mind you), is treated as something more than a medium
priority.

I can also confirm this, although not quite as much RAM.

Launcy begins by consuming 14MB of memory.

Gradually the memory consumption increases, this does not appear to relate
to the usage of Launchy. I can open and use it a number of times with no
appreciable increase in memory usage.

As with the previous post over a period of two hours or so the usage will
increase to around 150MB, i've seen it as high as 200MB.

I'm running the latest version of Launchy 2.1.2.
Windows XP Service Pack 3
Again Comodo Firewall
2 GB of RAM

I have another machine not running Comodo which does not suffer this
problem so perhaps it relates to the firewall?

Maybe Launcy is getting blocked in some way and then consuming memory?

Anyway hope this helps as I can't do without Launchy even with memory
issues. Keep up the good work.

Please also try disabling all plugins and then restarting Launchy.

Could the people having memory problems try disabling all add-on firewall
and antivirus software and then running Launchy? I'd be curious to know if
somehow those programs are interfering with Launchy.

I can confirm a similar bug, a horrible memory leak. After a couple days,
Launchy is using over 1GB of memory on my PC.

OS: Win XP SP2
CPU: Athlon 64 X2
Mem: 3GB
Launchy version: 2.0

Current Memory Usage:
Working Set: 848,576 KB
Virtual Size: 1,482,044 KB

When looking at the process using sysinternals Process Explorer, the only
thing out of the ordinary i notice (besides the tons of memory being
consumed) is that it appears to have opened the registry key
"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Settings" many many times. I
have no way of easily counting, but a very rough estimate is that it's
opened approximately 6000 times.

Likewise. I usually start around 24M and quickly get up to over 50MB RAM.
Seems like a lot of overhead.

I also have this problem--some sort of memory leak... I don't code, but I
can certainly help in any possible way--e-mail me at: jeff@jeffwidman.com

Ditto on this bug, Launchy 2.0, Windows XP SP2, memory usage climbs to
200-300MB before I restart it or quit it. Had to revert back to 1.25
because this was unacceptable. Obviously a leak.

I'd be happy with 40MB rather than this! But less is better considering
that a small utility like this should be small and lightweight.

I've had launchy 2.0 consume as much as 600mb of ram during the course of
a session

I'm using the 2.0 release of Launchy under Win XP Pro and Launchy consumes
40MB of RAM which, although not as bad as in your case, I find very
unpalatable. We're talking about a shortcut launcher -- what could possibly
require so much RAM? In comparison, Opera requires 60MB, but then again
it's a full-blown web browser. I understand that going Qt streamlined the
development of Launchy, but these levels of RAM consumtion is ridiculous
for a shortcut launcher. And I'm saying this as a MAJOR Launchy fan.
