5 Taskkill not available on Windows XP Home - ID: 1890612
Last Update: Comment added ( nabber00 )

Hello,

Thanks for creating Apupdater, that's a nice time saver.

I've run into problems when using it on Windows XP Home edition: it uses
taskkill to kill running processes when installing some software (e.g.
Launchy), but taskkill is not installed by default on Windows XP Home
Edition. Only tskill is available there.

The workaround for me was to download taskkill.exe from the internet
(http://home.wanadoo.nl/gigajosh/2005/05/taskkillexe.html), and install it
on c:\windows\system32. But it's not a great solution, it's not really
secure and may violate a bit my XP license.

Ludovic.

Thanks, I didn't know XP Home didn't have that feature, I'm running on XP
Pro and Vista over here. In their infinite wisdom it looks like Microsoft
has removed tskill from Vista, so the solution (at least for now) is to run
both commands.

I updated all of the packages that use taskkill, as well as the installer
for the next release since taskkill is called there as well.

You should get the update within the next 24 hours automatically, but if
you want it sooner you can run:

appupdater --update --force
