5 Personal document storage system - ID: 1868452
Last Update: Settings changed ( pincopallino )

Hello,

I have a problem. I don't like to throw out anything that may have
information I'll need in the future, such as bills, receipts, letters, and
so on. So my house has many piles of paper around, just in case I need
them. And when I do, I still can't find anything!

What I have dreamed about is a system where I can scan any docs that come
into my house, add a few tags, then throw away the paper for recycling.
Then, if I ever need the document again, I can easily find it online.

For example, let's say I buy some equipment for my home entertainment
system. When I get home, I can scan the receipt, and add tags of
"receipt", "warranty" and the brand of the equipment.

Now let's say that ten months later, the equipment fails. I just type
"receipt" and the brand in, and I can instantly get the scanned receipt
back, so I can claim the warranty. Or when tax time comes, I can go
through all the receipts looking for ones I can claim on my tax.

There's no need to be able to clean up scanned docs. As GMail reminds us,
why delete when disk space is so cheap! 400Gb for US$100!

Do you know of such a system (open source, for either Windows or Linux)
that I can use for document storage and retrieval?

Thank you for your time.
