The workaround below worked fine for me on SuSE 10.2, Evolution 2.12.0 :-)

I was able to work around this problem by editing the account settings
with gconf-editor. The key that needs to be edited is
/apps/evolution/mail/accounts.

In the Zimbra account entry, change the following string:

<sent-folder>mbox:/home/<username>/.evolution/mail/local#Sent</sent-folder>

to

<sent-folder>zimbra://<username>%40example.com@zimbra.example.com/Sent</sent-folder>

Of course, changing the username and hostnames to suit your needs.

While this is not convenient, at least you have the desired functionality
until it is fixed correctly.

I've filed an enhancement request with the Evolution developers to provide
us an API to make this feature happen.

I am using Evolution 2.12.0-29.6 on SuSE 10.2. My issue is probably
related to this one. My Sent items option under the Zimbra account
defaults are greyed out. I have no idea where the sent e-mails are being
stored - they are not going in the Zimbra or local folders.

I'm working on a patch that will automatically set the Draft and Sent
folder for newly created accounts to their Zimbra server equivalents.
