5 Won't connect. - ID: 1813453
Last Update: Comment added ( nobody )

When I launch Ares, it is continually connecting, but gaining no connection
what so ever.

It says "Connecting" and does not change.
I have let it set for extended periods of time, and still no change.

Any help?

I install Ares the first time - it connects and can download with no
stress, the next time i boot my pc - on the following day - Ares cant
initiate connection, re-install, and it can then connect fine again, this
does require a re-install after every re-boot - can this problem still be
TCP\IP protocols / firewall issues? Why would it work the first time only
strait after an new install? Protocols have not changed. Luckily this prog
installs fast!

OK, I have a little different take on all of this..
I have TWO machines sitting side by side.. One is XP (SP3) and the other
is Vista...
The VISTA machine is running Ares ULTRA 4.0.0.0 and it connects fine. No
issues at all.
The XP box has plain Ares(Galaxy) 2.0.9 and it will open the browser page,
but goes no further. It just says connecting forever. Test Connection
passes.... It DOES show my local IP address (192.168.1.114) on the 'Network
tab'...

Here is the weird part...The connection I use is from 114 back to the
router at 192.168.1.1 and then out to the rest of the world...
The ULTRA version shows not only the IP address of the box (192.168.1.101)
but it also shows just in front of that the dynamic IP of the routher.. It
looks like: IP:66.25.###.### (192.168.1.101) That is the ONLY difference
I see in any of the networking.. The 2.0.9 version on the XP box simply
says IP: (192.168.1.114) -- Yes, I have been in hte router and set up the
port correctly for port 43000 on the XP box, and routed accordingly. I have
Norton 2009 shut down completely (but both machines have identical
configs), and I have the XP Firewall disabled...
Anybody have a suggestion???? If not ARES, what other P2P program is
really easy to use on XP???

Have the same Problem (after updating WinXP) on all clients in the network.
It is not a problem of firewall an Port(forwarding).

delete ares from your computer and download ares 2.0.9, re install and
check your firewall, maybe is blocking the internet rpotocol (tcp/ip)
tcp: transfer control protocol
ip: internet protocol
to modify that:
go to internet connection in the control pannel and select your actually
connection, select properties, select avanzed options in top-rigth and
select firewall configuration, if you have a good antivirus, turn off your
firewall, if you dont go to advanced options, select your connection and
clic configuration, in services make sure all is select and chek icmp,
select allow echo request click ok, ok, ok
and its all
sorry for mi english im learning soo...
