5 Multi-Core! - ID: 1772668
Last Update: Comment added ( qubodup )

Hi, I had a quick suggestion for pdfcrack. I have multiple cores on my
system, and I don't think (aside from booting under a different kernel)
that I can utilize your program with more than one of them at a time. If I
have two different instances of the program running simultaneously, it
definitely uses both cores, but sadly it is trying the same passwords on
each of them. If I run only one instance, it will only run on one core.

I know you mention this on the FAQs page, but I figured I had to cast a
vote in favor of it again.

I third this! We all want to find our passwords faster. I really hate
that I forget them, but who can remember the 8 million passwords we are
required to use now. LOL

Perhaps you could accomplish this by just splitting the work in small
pieces and handing them to several threads or processes. You could follow
the HTC-Hydra scheme of work distribution in a client/server style.
You don't even have to modify pdfcrack at all, but instead just call it
several times, with a script, specifying the range of passwords to be
tested in each instance.
Makes any sense?
