5 Ask the user whether to really "Mark All As Read" - ID: 1742749
Last Update: Comment added ( sf-robot )

Hi. I had hundreds of my feeds in tens of feed-folders, some unread, ready
to be read as time permits. Suddenly I've lost all of my unread items -
everything was marked read. Then I found a menu item "Mark All As Read"
with Ctrl-L shortcut. So probably this caused all of my feeds read and I'v
lost of few months "history". So I would suppose to ask the user if All
Feeds should be really marked as read. Or at least when the action is
invoked through keyboard shortcut, since Ctrl-L is used a lot by a lot of
Linux terminal users (Ctrl-l == clear the whole screen). So bad windows
focus and everything is lost.
Otherwise great product, thanks.

I agree that the checkbox would make everyone happy. But project goal is
only to support one specific use case (just to limit the effort and
especially limit effort on now trivial 1 code line dialogs would have to be
enhanced with a preference). Also if this would be done for consistency it
would have to be applied to similar dialogs too.

At least I'm not willing to realized it.

Only the ones which might cause bigger 'data lost'.

Typical:

[x] Do not show again

checkbox could make both side happy.

> Also Mark-All-As-Read is one of the most used options

I can't see the usage too much. If I subscribe to some feed I just want
to read it :) If not I either mark the whole folder as read or
unsubscribe the feed.

Otherwise you are right.

Thanks for the tip, will try it.

While I understand your possible frustration after this happened, I cannot
agree with a confirmation. With this argumentation every possible hotkey
that causes any change to any program object would need a confirmation.
Which cannot be a reasonable behaviour.

Also Mark-All-As-Read is one of the most used options and I can imagine
hundreds of users demanding to have a forced confirmation to be removed.

Also the Ctrl-L was used intentionally because it is a well known hotkey
to clean up everything. In Liferea it cleans up the item state. So you see
one can argue exactly the opposite.

To solve your problem I suggest you remove the shortcut using the dynamic
GTK key binding.
