5 Bootscreen only in 16 colors - ID: 1703227
Last Update: Comment added ( nobody )

Installed XOSL shows its bootscreen in 16 colors (instead of 256 colors).
During the installation all vesa-resolutions were validated by XOSL. So it
should work.
System is: Notebook IBM/Lenovo with AMD/ATI X1400 graphicadapter. Attempts
to work around failed (Bootdisk with other "display.sys"-configuration;
Installing XOSL to another (hidden, logical, primary) partition; Selecting
different resolution in XOSL's setup...). Hopefully the bug is
reproducable.

Hi Chrisdedisk,
I dnl your file, uninstall XOSL2, install XOSL1.1.5TF. At last, XOSL is
back with its pretty look. It works fine on my PC (Mobo MSI ms-7025,
graphics card MSI RX1950PROT2D256, 2 HD Maxtor IDE, no SATA). I'm not
familiar with german language but it's time to be :)) (I never learnt
german at school, it's a pity) but I remember the english one.
A trouble, any other video mode than 640x480 can't work. All others hang.
No matter, it's really good like that.
Thanks a lot.

Sincerely yours,

Green51

Hi green51,

since xosl2_admin isn't accessible, I think posting a hint to the
download-location is ok: Just google for "iooonic" and you will be glad at
downloadz-section, but pay attention: the modified XOSL comes with no
warranty, is available in the version 1.1.5 and is translated to German. By
the way "TF" means Thinkpad-Fix and is dedicated to systems with the
above-mentioned problemes.

Sincerely yours,

CHRisDeDisk

Hi CHRisDeDisk,
Thanks for your quick reply. Yes, I'm very interested... and glad if you
can give us a link to dnl the file.

Congratulations.

Hi green51,

finally, somebody reacts. Well, in the meantime I partially solved the
problem by changing the code. Direct access to the ports of the
graphicadapter don't work (for example setting/getting colorpalettes), but
significant slower interrupt-10h-calls (which are VESA-compatible) cause no
problems.

If you are interested in that changed XOSL, I would post the weblink here
with the permission of admin and maincoder of the XOSL-Project.

Sincerely yours,

CHRisDeDisk

Same 16 colors ugly bootscreen on this system :
mobo MSI ms-7025 w/ 3700+
Graphic Card : MSI RX1950PROT2D256
All VESA resolutions are validated, choosing 800x600 resolution hangs
(colored stripes on screen), others resolutions work.
With a Asus V9999GT (Nvidia 6800GT) instead of the RX1950, every thing
works fine.
As I read somewhere, it seems to be an ATI/AMD trouble (recent cards
appear to be not totally compliant with VESA specifications). Same trouble
with XOSL 1.1.5.
