5 ISCSI reload causes session errors - ID: 1695176
Last Update: Comment added ( nobody )

We're using Equallogic arrays and after doing a reload our message file
starts getting filled with these messages.

Apr 5 10:43:31 iss-365-mgr01 iscsid[31771]: iSCSI session ioctl failed for
iqn.2001-05.com.equallogic:6-8a0900-368062a01-a79000003ca46153-test1,
Resource temporarily unavailable: Resource temporarily unavailable
Apr 5 10:43:31 iss-365-mgr01 kernel: iscsi-sfnet: Could not find session
to update
Apr 5 10:43:31 iss-365-mgr01 iscsid[31590]: iSCSI session ioctl failed for
iqn.2001-05.com.equallogic:6-8a0900-2a6062a01-2e5000003c646153-test,
Resource temporarily unavailable: Resource temporarily unavailable

This happens even if the volumes are not mounted and the only way to fix it
is by bringing everything down, unmounting the volumes and doing a
restart.

For the record, I am running RHEL U5 and still experiencing this issue.

Thanks. I've tested this on RH3 and no problems at all.
You've been really helpful, I'll have to update to U5 once it's released.

Just so you know and anyone else that searches the archives, RHEL3 should
not have this problem. The bug should only be in RHEL4 U2 - RHEL4 U4.

I just wanted to give it a try and installed the 4.0.3.0-5 Beta on U4 but
like you said, my only choice is moving to U5, the problem is that we also
have some RHEL3Ux installed.

I sent you an email, thanks a lot for your help.

Ok, given the support issues I guess, you will have to wait for RHEL4 u5
to come out and use that. You will need the updated kernel and
iscsi-initiator-utils from it.

The new iscsi-initiator-utils version is 4.0.3.0-5 and the RHEL kernel of
the day (snapshot of RHEL4 kernel) is here
http://people.redhat.com/~jbaron/rhel4/. If you want to give it a test spin
to make sure your problem is fixed in u5, send me a mail
(mchristi@redhat.com) and I will send you some test packages.

Hi, we have several versions of REDHAT but the one I got that output from
is RHES4U4 and I'm using the latest version provided by Red Hat (because
otherwise they won't provide support on that). The driver version is
4:0.1.11-3 and the rpm package is iscsi-initiator-utils-4.0.3.0-4.

Thanks a lot

The problem is that the kernel des not know about login redirection and as
a result is looking for a different session. We fixed this in RHEL4 U5. I
have not pushed the patch back to sourceforge cvs yet. I am in the middle
of trying to cleanup some ipv6 bugs which got merged into cvs and we are
trying to fix first (I mean I am trying to get the RHEL4 and cvs code in
sync and trying to be able to get to a point where I can backport
patches).

What version of linux-iscsi are you using. If you are using RHEL4's
linux-iscsi I would updated to the version in U5. If you are using a old
cvs or sourceforge version let me know the version.
