WAN and WEB (internet) accelerator feature request
It would be great if Monowall featured a native WAN acceleration function
(as an option) to increase WAN (internet transfers) performance.
WAN accelerator, like router/proxy/firewall functions with a built-in
function to cache (and keep up-to-date) the users most visited (HTTP/HTTPS)
websites and web-based applications on a local harddrive. Also specific
non-web-based database applications like mail (Microsoft Exchange, Notes
Domino, etc.), databases (SQL, Oracle, etc.) and file-sharing over FTP,
CIFS or NFS.
Other functions to accelerate WAN links include:
* Data Streamlining optimizes all WAN traffic by removing all redundant
data and prioritizing traffic through advanced QoS (Quality of Service)
mechanism techniques.
* Transport Streamlining improves the behavior of TCP.
* Application Streamlining reduces application protocol inefficiencies and
enables disconnected operations.
* Management Streamlining simplifies the deployment, maintenance, and
management of the appliances.
Professional WAN accelerators designed for specific applications (like thin
and fat-clients like Citrix or ERP) usually make those applications run
500% to 5000% faster over slow network links (like VPN over non-broadband
internet connections).
