I know it's on your todo list, though I'm curious why smarty? I've not
used it myself, but I understand it to be like a language of its own.
What I have used it PEAR's html_sigma and it's easy to learn and implement.
it doens't force you to do it all at once either, and you can even design
the initial templates to allow html to be placed in them.
