driver for rtl8180 + sa2400

Tracker: Patches

5 rtl8180 for 2.6.20 - ID: 1656996
Last Update: Comment added ( chili_willy )

Latest drivers that compile against 2.6.20. They are latest from CVS, and
patched for 2.6.20.
Only 2 modules are build:
r8180.ko and ieee80211-rtl.ko
ieee80211-rtl.ko has all algoritms in it. WPA doesn't work for me.
There is no conflict with kernel built-in ieee stack.
Doesn't work for pre 2.6.20 kernel.
Tested with wireless extensions 21.

Thanks a million for your work. As soon as I invoked the 2 correct insmod
commands, my card lit up and I was connected (a great surprise after days
of struggle with ndiswrapper and various open drivers).

The card is an Edimax EW-7106PC. Realtek chipset. Ubuntu 7.04, kernel
2.6.20-16. If any other details would help, I'm happy to provide them.

It would be very very helpful if someone could update the instructions
("INSTALL") included in the downloadable archive. The instructions must be
for an earlier version of the driver, and you have to figure out the right
commands from the outdated commands that are given. This is pretty hard
for someone who's no expert. Also if you could specify modprobe instead of
insmod. insmod is sort of "deprecated", right? But I don't know if I can
simply use modprobe in place of insmod.

Hi,
I am on etch and after using all the different driver, I always have the
problem of frezzing at one time or an other.
I am on 2.6.20.11. That works fine until freezing.

Any Idea ?

Worked great for me on 2.6.20-gentoo-r6.
Anyone have any ideas on how to patch it for aircrack-ng?
Thanks.

On 2.6.20-gentoo-r5:
Can't associate and change channel in managed mode:
# iwconfig wlan0 channel 7
Error for wireless request "Set Frequency" (8B04) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Operation not supported.
Monitor mode works well.X
Ad-hoc wasn't tested. Anyway the card probes given networks but doesn't
associate.
also there are some problems with rate display:
wlan0 802.11b link.. ESSID:"L3oN"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.442 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated
Bit Rate:-67.296 kb/s
Retry:on Fragment thr:off
Encryption key:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Security
mode:restricted
Power Management:off
Link Quality=96/100 Signal level=-55 dBm Noise level=-252 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
Scanning also works well.
On 2.6.21-gentoo there are some missing symbols for ieee80211-rtl so it
can't be loaded, but I don't remember which, I'll tell you if You want.

Upgrade wireless extensions.
Have you tried to connect with network? And which kernel do you use?

Hi
I just test the install of this driver.
My card is a dlink dl-510 pci
the install seems to work, good messages of dmesg
but there is a problem to link the essid:

dmesg :
"rtl_ieee80211_crypt: registered algorithm 'NULL'
rtl_ieee80211_crypt: registered algorithm 'TKIP'
rtl_ieee80211_crypt: registered algorithm 'WEP'
rtl_ieee80211_crypt: registered algorithm 'CCMP'

rtl8180: Setting SW wep key
rtl8180: Setting SW wep key
rtl8180: Bringing up iface
rtl8180: Card successfully reset
NET: Registered protocol family 17

ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready"

and whe i do iwlist scan, that gives to me the access points, but before
there is this message:

"Warning: Driver for device wlan0 has been compiled with version 21
of Wireless Extension, while this program supports up to version 17.
Some things may be broken.."

what can i do ?
I am on sarge
