I am very excited to find OpenVanilla as a much better alternative to the
default Chinese inputing methods provided by Mac OS Tiger.
酷音輸入法 is what I have been hope for ever since I switched to Mac
in 2005. When I use Windows PC, NJStar (南極星) is the Chinese input and
word processor I rely heavily on. Because I use pin-yin to enter
traditional Chinese. However, NJStar was apparently developed by Chinese
who emmigrated to Australia, and the word frequency count and phrase data
base are based on the word use in mainland China.
OV is developed by Taiwanese, and that would solve the inconvenient
problems I often encounter in using NJStar, such as scratching my head over
the pronunciation of characters or correcting the selection of characters
in a given phrase.
To my chagrin, 酷音輸入法 doesn't support Pin-yin鍵盤. And the
simplied to traditional conversion option provided by OV is based on the
usage of simplied Chinese. As you know, the correspondence is hardly one to
one, so the resulted errors are numerous. What's worse, there is no way to
choose traditional characters, such as 髮, to correct the mistakes left by
the conversion using the currently available pin-yin method in OV.
So my big wish is to be able to use 拼音鍵盤, which is more natural
than 許式鍵盤 because it's IDENTICAL to all Latin alphabet-based
keyboard, to type 繁體中文, as easy as 酷音輸入法 allows, on a
Mac.
(If you experts decide to make my wish come true, please take NJStar's
tone entering method into consideration: tones are totally optional, you
can enter them by typing 12345 to limit the selection, or drop some or all
of them as you like.)
