I'm using WinXP, SP2. Downloaded the game sometimes in the beginning of
January '07, like 2nd or 3rd of, so I suggest I had the most recent files
up to then.
So far, I've experienced random crashes when fighting near the edge of the
map with sonic tanks, and when using death hand missiles near the edge.
(Did not check this yet, but I suggest that rocket launchers near the edge
would give crash the game as well.) Other random crashes include browsing
mentat, particularly ordos raider, silo, and WOR, or just COMPLETELY random
crashes - like once every 15-20 minutes during the game. I had to save
often, and somehow noticed that the more often I save - the less the game
crashes.
Agree with previous poster - air units are not visible above buildings. A
real pain in the neck when attacking by ornithopters.
I don't know about others, but I can't see the prices of anything I build
or order from the starport. I know there's an event, which says the current
cost rate from the starport, yet it shows and disappears quite quickly, and
there's no way to bring it back. While I still remember most of the prices
from the original Dune 2, ordering is always weird- I have to order, see
how much money I lost, and then decide whether I want to go ahead with the
order or cancel it. Not very neat.
Upgrades are not available anywhere. This in particular goes to the 2x2
concrete tabs, as when I started first playing, I had to pave everything
with 1x1 concrete, which is not funny at all, so I turned off the
requirement of concrete (absolutely loved this feature). However, this
upgrade of 2x2 concrete is available in single player, custom map, yet
mostly only in the first construction yard I have from the beginning (I
once had 6 construction yards, and only the 1st and 2nd had this upgrade
available)
Options from within the game are not working. I'm not quite sure about all
settings, but when I had maximum res, I tried to change options when the
level already started, and it didn't work.
When I finish the level, it tells me "you have failed the mission" or
something like that, but the voice says "the mission is complete".
Levels 18 and 19 (when playing skirmish) on Atreides, do not have rock
around the construction yard - it seems to be replaced by dunes. Other
levels seem to be ok, yet I didn't check all of them.
The game is unplayable with 320x240 res - I can only see the upper left
corner of the whole game screen.
Would like to have features like:
1. Pave all. The same way that 'fill' works in the map editor - pave until
there's no more rock left or until there's a obstacle in the way (such as
already paved rock, a wall, a building, or even a soldier or a vehicle) -
do not pave behind the obstacle unless there's a way to go around it. Cost
and time to build would depend on how much there's to pave.
2. Being able to order a group of carryalls to take a group of vehicles,
put it through the repair bay, and bring back. Something like choose
several carryalls, give an order, select the group (or just press a button
of group number), and that's it.
3. Ordering a building for all new units to go to a particular point.
4. Check the statistics after the game - like in the original. Who build
what, how much spice harvested, how many kills etc.
5. Not an improvement but simply an idea - make the silo be able to hold
not 1000 but 2000, or even 5000. Or maybe, make an option of silos not
required - be able to store unlimited spice without any silos. I find
myself wasting a lot of space on them.
6. Would be nice to make spice increase with time - sort of the way the ore
grows in C&C - Red Alert. Or just make random spots of spice appear,
whatever they're called - the ones that can be blown up for spice. By the
way - there's not a single one of those on any of the maps, in the
locations they're suppose to be in the original.
That's about it. Other than what I've already mentioned, I absolutely loved
what you've done with the game.
