Tracker: Bugs

5 b127 - Console letters disappear when a key is hit - ID: 1578816
Last Update: Settings changed ( bozho )

I'm using the attached configuration file. If I type
something, Console gets blank without any letter. If I
click on Console, then everything seems to be OK except
the fact that I can not see anything when typing but
the cursor.

I did not see that before when using previous versions.

baxissimo, try disabling cleartype and see what happens

This happens to me sometimes too. Like everyone else I'm not sure what to
do to reproduce it consistently.
I seem to have more problems on my laptop though, which has cleartype.
(That also leads to a lot of bit turds on the screen, but that's a separate
issue.)

Using the vanilla b129 causes all characters to disappear on a semi-random
basis. It can occur immediately or after a few minutes or seconds. Seems to
happen when I push T, but I'm sure that's just co-incidence :)

Also, opening another tab doesn't resolve it - the same issue (invisible
characters) happens on that, too. Only way to fix it is to quit and
restart. This is extremely annoying.

Console 1.5 doesn't have this problem.

I'm now using only XTerm cursors in each shell (cmd, bash)
and without any problems.

The only change I can think of is the bitmap allocation
fallback mechanism that could break things, but I'm not sure
how.

I will try to prepare two versions of Console.exe for you
guys to try...

I forgot to mention that when this happens, the hidden cmd
window looks fine, whereas the console program has blanked
out chars.

Whaa? Update our video drivers?? LOL

I actually had this occur a lot on a console running the
fading block cursor today. It did not start until I had been
using the program for quite a while. This problem may also
be associated with that fix that you made for batch files
that contained & (ampersand characters for redirection). I
am now going to use the xterm cursor for an extended length
of time to see if the problem does not re-occur.

Please try 2 more things:

Update your video card driver.

Try running Console without transparency and background
bitmaps (just plain black background)

Arrrg! I am having issues re-creating this. I switched to
the xterm cursor and it did not happen. I switched back to
the fading block and it has not happened! I will have to
wait for the next occurrence.

Yes, I was using the b127 console.xml, I always do...

I will check the hidden window next time it happens.

I am using transparent backgrounds with two consoles running
with each console having at least two tabs open.

I second this bug. It seems to be a screen buffer problem
and is difficult to reproduce but happens often. I have seen
it just blank out parts of the screen until a return is
entered. It seems to happen quite a bit when using robocopy.
I will try using a different cursor as suggested.

Maybe it is caused by the fading cursor. If I'm right it was
the default value in the zip archive. I have changed it to
the XTerm one.

Every time I configure a default configuration file supplied
with the newest build.

I'll let you know as soon as I find that cursor style matters.

I cannot reproduce this here...

What does hidden console show?

Did you try with the console.xml supplied with b127?
