5 Project how-to questions - ID: 1567725
Last Update: Comment added ( wdavison )

Hi, I am a project manager here at sourceforge, and I
want to know, how can I add some file to be downloaded
when someone click in the "Download" green button that
appears in the project summary page.

Other doubt, how can I add a screenshot to be viewed
when someone view the project description in the search
engine (that little screenshot that appears in the
right side of the description).

Thanks for the attention.
Alexandre P. Bueno.

Greetings,

The canned responses I included (below) should help you get
going on the File Release System, which is how you get files
into the download area of your project (click on Admin and then
File Releases).

As for screenshots, there is a Screenshots link you will see
after you click on Admin.

Greetings,

To release a file, generate a zip archive or tarball and place
it at the root of your hard drive, for easy access. Then follow
these instructions to perform the upload:

1. FTP to upload.sourceforge.net

2. Login as 'anonymous' (note the spelling)

3. Use your e-mail address as the password for this login

4. Set your client to binary mode ('bin' on
command-line clients)

5. Change your current directory to /incoming
('cd /incoming')

6. Upload the desired files for the release
('put filename')

Once the files have been uploaded to the incoming directory, go
to the Project Admin page for your project and use the
'Edit/Release Files' link to create a package and
release, then attach the uploaded file(s) to a release.

Please refer to our guide to the file release system:
https://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=6445&group_id=1

FTP is, by design, an insecure protocol. For this reason, your
SourceForge.net login is not accepted by the file release
upload servers; only anonymous logins are permitted.

Should you have further questions or concerns regarding this
matter, please submit a new support request.

Thank you,
