Details:

This may sound fool but, have you considered to support
other protocols like POP3 for example? I know that this
project says from everywhere that is just for gmail but
you have done a fine application and I think that if
you make it not only a gmail notifier but a global
notifier, I'm pretty sure that many people would use
this program as their default mail notifier.

(The reason that this project is so actively developed is that I'm using it constantly - a project which the developer isn't making use of is essentially a dead project) For that matter, there are already lots of great POP3/SMTP biffs - it's probably much easier to just ask the authors of those projects to add in the features of checkgmail that you like, than rewriting checkgmail to support a completely different protocol.
