Send to Ipod results in crash
Brought to you by:

I pick a playlist that contains .mp3's and choose Send
To and choose iPod
it transfers the songs and then it crashes, or it
transfers and then if I click on the ipod playlist it
crashes.
Using an iPod Nano 4Gb, software version v1.1
works fine with iTunes
help! I'd much rather use ml-pod than itunes...
thanks

You are using 1.42.
Always try with the latest alpha release, if available.
Visit http://mitglied.lycos.de/bursian/ipod/ to download
it.
And please read
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=252776
Could be the same problem.
Does the latest patch version fix it?

sorry, I should have mentioned that I DID try the latest
alpha (p08) and same problem occurred.
I will now try p09.

okay - so I uninstalled Winamp, deleted the Winamp
directory, reinstalled Winamp 5.24 Full, then installed
ml-pod 1.42p09, and it's still crashing after the transfer.
here's a video that shows the entire sequence... from
install to crash.
http://machine3d.com/temp/mlpod142p09.wmv (1.7Mb)
I'll try again using default Winamp install options, but
I'll bet it crashes, too.
thanks

okay, so I uninstalled Winamp & deleted the whole directory
again -- then I reinstalled with all the default options
(Winamp 5.24 Full), and then installed ml-pod 1.42p09.
then I formatted the iPod
then I transferred a playlist and it crashed again. Seems
pretty consistent!
Please let me know what I can do to help troubleshoot this...
thanks!

Thanks for the video, that is really helpful. How did you
create that?
What concerns me is that there are several songs that seem
to be transferred without a name (when the dash shows in
the transfer window).
Are the songs on the iPod after the crash?
Can you enable transfer logging in the prefs, and send the
tarnsfer log. And all the debuglog*.txt files (see the FAQ
for more information).
Thanks.

Please read the ml_ipod FAQ, section "Winamp crashed when I did
XYZ with the iPod plugin, what should I do?":
http://www.joerobot.com/mlipodwiki/index.php?
title=FAQ#Winamp_crashed_when_I_did_XYZ_with_the_iPod_plugin.2C_w
hat_should_I_do.3F
and then attach the requested files and give the requested
information.
Without that information, I can not reproduce any bug or give
any further help, sorry.

sorry, the last comment was added automatically. I wanted
to add the URL only... ;-)

And one more test: Could you try with a very small playlist
(2 or 3 songs) where all of them are in the ML and the
artist and title is shown correctly. Crash again?

hi achim66,
I just installed the new p10 version and did the tests you
wanted. Transferring a small list that has complete tags
works fine. In fact, transferring a list of 10 tracks that
do NOT have complete tags also works fine. But when
transferring a ~large list (72 tracks) that has incomplete
tags... then it crashes again.
Am attaching the log file...
Creating the video file was done with Camtasia Recorder -
very useful.

Again, please send the debuglog*.txt. And once again my
question (that is important for me): Are the songs visible
on the iPod after the crash? Or do you have the old state?
Or nothing at all on the iPod?
Maybe I have to create a special version for you, with some
more debug output. But I have to look at the files first.
What about a large playlist with all files with tags?
If that works, why don't you just tag all your files? There
are a lot of free mass taggers...
ml_ipod depends on the artist and title info that Winamp
gives. So, if Winamp shows no title, ml_ipod doesn't have
any, too. And I expect that this will lead to problems, we
have a lot of songs with the same artist and title (="") on
the iPod then.

sorry about that -- attached is the debuglog.txt
No, the songs are not visible on the iPod after the crash.
If I re-launch Winamp and do a database cleanup then the
Lost & Found playlist appears both in the Winamp Library AND
on the iPod (and the songs are playable).
hmmm... and I see what is definitely user error... I have
.ogg and .wav files in my lists, so that probably has a lot
to do with it. When I remove those and transfer everything
looks okay... but I'll test this more.
thanks

Still unable to reproduce it, sorry. I created a playlist
with 26 songs without tags and 22 with tags, all went fine.
All *.mp3 though.
The attached ZIP did not work, it downloaded with 0 bytes???

One more idea: Disable the transcoding feature (It's on by
default). The transcoder is badly broken.
Result?

I got it reproduced! Only a single OGG file in the
playlist, and BANG.
Now I could start looking for a fix... and I hope I found
it already. Try the newest 1.42p11
