Linux on Psion

Tracker: Feature Requests

5 Support for the original Psion 5 - ID: 1492003
Last Update: Comment added ( nobody )

As psion didn't released ER5 for the original Psion, I
want to try linux now.

But it seems that the original Psion isn't supported
anymore by openpsion, too :-(
I tried the kernel for the 5mx, but it did nothig
(probably becuse of the changes memory layout)
I would love to help you porting openpsion to the
series5 (8MB), but I don't know too much about the
internals fro the psion :-(

The Series 5 can be booted into linux (I know, I just did it!). The
problem for me was actually finding the files (well, an initrd and kernel
image). If you install ARLO (the one on the downloads page for 5MX /
netbook) on your S5 you'll be able to boot Linux using ramdisk image
http://linux-7110.sourceforge.net/files/People/Klaasjan/initrds/initrds3.gz
and kernel
http://linux-7110.sourceforge.net/files/People/Klaasjan/kernelbinaries/glued-image-2.2.1-cb26-psionS5-boot15.gz.

You need to uncompress the kernel, but not the ramdisk.

Read the 5MX README page, too, as it has lots of useful info.

Best of luck

JonB
