I would like to second this request - I would definitely
like to see this, especially after all the problems with
G2's "hide" functionality are reolved.

As far as not everybody wanting this - I would be perfectly
happy if this would be implemented as an option of the Hide
module that is turned off by default.

I understand your situation, but there are many users who
never use the hide feature. I would have to say that a
feature which is included in the <<Item Actions>> menu
should only be placed there if a very high percentage of
users use said feature. I'm not sure if the hide feature is
popular enough to warrant a placement there. Of course, I
don't use that feature, or plan on using it, so my view may
be jaded. Just my .02
