7 Performance issue when using lenses (Mac OS X 10.4 / Linux) - ID: 1240098
Last Update: Comment added ( epietrig )

Bug 1218765 does not affect JVMs that ship with Mac OS X 10.4
(Tiger) (1.4.2_08 and 1.5r1).

However, we now experience a significant drop of the frame rate
when a lens is activated in a view (which was not the case with Mac
OS X 10.3 JVMs).

Lenses perform well under Windows, but also seem to cause
performance issues under Linux.

I confirm that performance is now good under Mac OS X Tiger.
The fix however did not have any effect on Linux/Xorg.

I have no idea how to improve things under Linux for now.

The problem has been solved by manipulating pixels directly in the
DattaBuffer instead of calling getPixel() / setPixel() for each
transformed
pixel.

Under Mac OS X Tiger, the performance has improved by a factor of
about 10, and the refresh rate is now good.

I still have to test this new method under Linux.
