5 missing or disappearing icons and font in KDE - ID: 1157676
Last Update: Comment added ( nobody )

When running KDE as the window manager in a Xdmx
session, we encounter a lot of icons or fonts problems.
In Konsole for instance, the menu doesn't show any text.
The main KDE panel doesn't display its icons.
Aso...
We tested this on several installations, with various
Linux distribution (debian, mandrake...)

Does -norender fix the problem? I believe this issue is related to Qt not
KDE. If -norender fixes the problem, you might want to try using the newest
version of the Xdmx server. I fixed a few bugs in Xdmx last summer, one of
which had to do with incorrect clipping when the RENDER extension was
enabled. If you use an Xdmx server that has my patches applied (such as the
one included with Xorg 7.2) you can use RENDER with Xdmx and will not have
clipping issues (disappearing text and icons).

Thank you for your time,
James Steven Supancic III

i have the same problem. the worst part is highlighting text in konqueror
(i have a habit of doing that as i read) makes most of the font rendered on
the page disappear-- i have to open another tab and paste the old url in
the new tab to fix this. not as bad as restarting konqueror, but
annoying.

i run fluxbox, but konqueror is invaluable to me as i have tons of
customized actionscripts.. at any rate the problem is related more to the
kde apps than the windowmanager, btw. (i will also be filing bug reports
there)

i am running xdmx with -norendering (see my post under the gtk app bug
report) and -noglxproxy on a pair of linux (current sidux) boxes. any
other information availible on request.

I had a similar problem with Gnome under Xdmx (missing icons
in menus, missing minimise/maximise icons, etc). Using
-norender seems to have solved the problem (and got rid of
another cosmetic problem: obviously-pixelated mouse
cursors). Thanks!

Try running with -norender.
