5 5-way directional support on Treo6?0 - ID: 1090554
Last Update: Comment added ( nobody )

It would be nice to have 5-way directional support
available on the Treo600 or Treo650.

Having just moved to a Centro, I echo this request.

Yes, please :-) I don't need any new whizzy features, but supporting what
is now the standard Palm focus and navigation controls would make Keyring
much easier to use.

Bleh, I should have done this testing before posting:

The PRC downloaded from SourceForge does not work as far as
navigation within the main screen. (Hitting the middle
button highlights the "Lookup" text field instead of moving
to the key list.) It does work when compiled against the
new headers. (my God the new headers are a pain to install
- palmOne borked the capitalization of all directory names
in the .zip file.)

The drop-down category list cannot be accessed via the nav
buttons in the main screen, but can be accessed via the nav
buttons from within an entry form. Entry form navigation
works identically on both the locally compiled and
downloaded version. Fully functional except for that pesky
"generate" button not being accessible via nav.

Dialogs are fully functional in both versions too.

Since these work on Treos, I'm not sure if they'll work on
Tungstens. You're right about the two different API versions.

AHA. Yeah, there's partial navigation support.

It works in the following places:
Forms for entering data. (One exception: It does not seem
to be possible to move from the "Done" button to the
"Generate" button.)
Dialogs seem to work fine
Hitting the center button DOES allow you to navigate through
the list. This isn't how most Nav-aware applications work,
so it's confusing to most users. Also there is no way to
select the New button or the categories dropdown.

Since I'm now able to compile keyring, I'll see if I can
tweak the nav behavior in the form entry (allowing access to
the "generate" button), and possibly tweaking the behavior
in the main screen.

Does the navigator work when compiled with new SDK headers?

Does the navigator at least work in the various dialogs (ask
password, random password generation, change password)?

BTW: If I understand that code correctly, it should only
activate navigating the table if the center button is
pressed while on the lookup-field.

BTW, you're right that the documentation is horrible for the
APIs. The headers are a BITCH to install now.

PalmGS.h was replaced with palmOne_68K.h (I think...
keyring compiles fine if that replacement is made and the
latest palmOne SDK headers are installed.)

5-way does not do anything in 2.0-pre4 on a Treo 600. :(

The prerelease 2.0-pre4 has support for 5-way naviagation.
I'm not sure if it works as I cannot test it (there is no
simulator or emulator at palmone that works for me...)
I'm also not sure whether I used the right one of the two
different APIs to access 5-way nav (I wish there would be
more documentation on the net).

The patch is from John Kirkland with changes from Alex
Smolyanov and Alex Raschepkin and changes from me :)
