Cant build battstat: No apmd on x86_64 - ID: 1086612

I am trying to get a battery status monitor for gnome
working in my AMD64 latop. Battstat needs apmd, but
that only runs on i386.
I need an acpi x86_64 gnome battery status monitor!
Can you help?
