6 Regression:rubber band selection of desktop items are broken - ID: 3561482

With the latest source code in git, using rubber band selection to select multiple desktop items no longer works.
When you drag on the blank area of the desktop, it tries to initiate dnd rather than doing rubber band selection.
It used to work in 1.0. I think it's a regression bug.
