5 difference between bowel and intestine? - ID: 3408206
Last Update: Settings changed ( hayamizu )

"bowel" is often used as a synonym for intestine, but these are siblings in MA:

......po MA:0000323 ! gastrointestinal system [SYNONYM: "alimentary system" (related)] [SYNONYM: "alimentary tract" (related)]
.......po MA:0000328 ! intestine ***
.......po MA:0001524 ! bowel ***

The only child of bowel is "bowel wall". (there is also a "intestine wall").

There was some ambiguity in usage of the term 'bowel" but, after reviewing
annotations and corresponding literature, I don't think that this is
sufficiently significant to justify a separate term. Consequently, the plan
is to merge the terms and, or course, include the appropriate synonyms.
