I think that spell checking should be nowdays a default feature for any decent text editor.
Hunspell (http://hunspell.sourceforge.net/) is a very good candidate because it's used by OpenOffice, Mozilla Firefox/Thunderbird.
TextWorks (http://www.tug.org/texworks/) is a Qt application and it uses Hunspell, I think it could be an inspiration source on how Hunspell
should be integrated with a Qt app.
