It might be convenient if there were a small checkbox somewhere in the web interface that indicated whether or not the page was set to auto-reload. If unset, the meta-refresh would be disabled when the page is loaded, if checked, javascript would auto-refresh the page the first time, but once the check was set, the server would return meta-refresh on each page. Likewise, if the check is on, and the user turns it off, javascript should reload the page one last time manually where it would be loaded w/o the meta refresh.
Alternatively, implementing the refresh system via a javascript mechanism from the very beginning would make it simpler, but would suffer as it would lack functionality if javascript was disabled.
