Hi,
on up-to-date MiKTeX installations MetaPost is broken.
The error occurs when text is output in MetaPost code,
both, using strings or btex..etex constructs. Sample
code and log file are attached.

How strange, I cannot reproduce this bug.

I see that your mem file is from June. Please build a new
one and try again.

Hi,
the problem has been confirmed on the MiKTeX mailing list in
thread "MetaPost broken?" from 21.07.2005.
But indeed rebuilding all format files vai MiKTeX Options->
General->Format Files->Update Now solved the problem. Btw,
how do I rebuild the MetaPost format file alone? Under
MiKTeX Options->TeX Formats I couldn't find an entry for
MetaPost.

Rebuilding all formats fixed it for me too, but shouldn't metapost rebuild it's mem file automatically as the other *tex formats do?
