5 mpd packet loss with xp firewall enabled - ID: 1154634
Last Update: Comment added ( nobody )

Hi, dear developers of MPD!!!

We installed mpd 3.18 to provide our users (about 2000
hosts) LAN VPN Services.

But recently we faced serious problem connecting our
WinXP SP2 users with Windows-firewall enabled. Because
of great user number and totally no control to their
PC, I can't say all of them like: "Just disable your
firewall and your connection will be ok". Every time i
spoke such i heard in answer: "My Windows XP SP2 says
to me, that my computer now is under big risk" (you now
that i mean, users users.... :(( ).

It is a really big headache for me and my IT stuff, so
big you can't imagine. :) Can you help me, plizz? May
be i have to install some patches or do some mystic
fixup to my configs?

Thx in advance.

Best regards, Alexander, from Russia with Love :).

Maybe this is helpfull (for debugging): If I ping from the
mpd client to the mpd server, I do get packet loss with
Windows XP and activated firewall. Then I ping the mpd
client (with his IP adress, which the client got from the
mpd server) from an other host: Packet loss seems to disappear.

So:
ping mpd_client -> mpd_server: Enormous Packet loss.
ping mpd_client -> mpd_server and ping third_host ->
mpd_client: No (or very seldom) packet loss.

Any chance to get mpd working with windows xp and its firewall?

FreeBSD 5.2.1
Port mpd-3.15_1
Quality of service is not installed on that vpn link.
windowing, always-ack and other suggestions from the mailing
list didn't helped me.

we had a simelar problem with 50% packet loss on ping. It
was on XP with sp2 but turned out to be the Quality of server
under the network adapter. If you turn it of it works ok
