The Panasonic Lumix FX-12
(with DeviceID: Vendor 04da, Product 2372) is detected as a 'Lumix FX-20 (other id)' but doesn't work correctly with libgphoto2.

Currently I removed the device id's from the libgphoto2 udev rules files so it can be used as a standard USB device in Digikam, but using the correct protocol (whatever that may be) would be of course a lot neater.

I don't know how to help with conneting to this device correctly but if you would like me to run some commands/tests on it please drop me a mail.

define "does not work correctly" ? this is far too vague to be remotely useful.

As for detecting the FX-20 has apparently the same USB as the FX-12 we have in the list.

    What does gphoto2 --auto-detect gives?

You are right that it is a very vague definition. But the problem is that I don't know where in the connection the stuff is going wrong, it just doesn't work.

The output of the gphoto2 --auto-detect is:

    Model Port
    ----------------------------------------------------------
    Panasonic DMC-FZ20 (alternate id) usb:
    Panasonic DMC-FZ20 (alternate id) usb:002,006

So I was wrong with saying it recognizes it as a FX-20, it should be FZ-20. But my camera *really* is a FX-12

The result of gphoto2 -L, next I runned it with the debug options as specified (see attachment):

    *** Error ***
    PTP I/O error

    *** Error ***
An error occurred in the io-library ('Unspecified error'): No error description available
    *** Error (-1: 'Unspecified error') ***

For debugging messages, please use the --debug option.
Debugging messages may help finding a solution to your problem.
If you intend to send any error or debug messages to the gphoto
developer mailing list <gphoto-devel@lists.sourceforge.net>, please run
    gphoto2 as follows:

    env LANG=C gphoto2 --debug --debug-logfile=my-logfile.txt -L

Please make sure there is sufficient quoting around the arguments.

I don't know where this other-id comes from but it is obviously wrong. The camera should have been mounted when plugged it, making the use of gphoto uncessary.

i have disabled the ID in camlibs/ptp2 for now, and mailed the
original reporter if he can reconfirm his camera working.

I had to tar the file because it would be otherwise too big for SF.net upload.

    >making the use of gphoto uncessary
I want to use digiKam with my camera (which uses libgphoto2 in te back-end) and it always forces it as a FZ-20 device and the gphoto2 udev-rules prevent the camera being mounted as a a standard mass-storage device.

    @marcusmessner
If indeed the ID is disabled, it should be fixed because that will allow the camera to be mounted as a mass-storage device

I meant I just disabled the ID in our SVN repository.

So basically I hope this makes libgphoto2 not to recognize this camera anymore in this mode.

Similar issue with Panasonic DMC FX5. Camera is recognized as FZ20. It can work in USB or PTP mode. If camera is set to use USB mode in camera menu, PTP mode fails. If it is set to PTP mode, gphoto2 2.4.0 works.

I suspect that original reporter used his FZ20 only in PTP mode.

I have debug logs of gphoto2 -L for FX5, but I can't find option to attach files to this tracker.

we fixed this in the meantime, in 2.4.1 or latest in 2.4.2
