Management tool for ZFS Jails on FreeBSD with VNET support, resource containers, hot cloning, compression, deduplication, soft and cold restart, boot priority and many more features.
What is Zjail?
Zjail was written to simplify FreeBSD jail management based on ZFS filesystems. It is glue between ZFS and Jails and it is completely independent of system rc.d jail scripts. It also supports VNET as an experimental feature.
Why another jail management tool?
There are a number of high quality jail management tools already available for FreeBSD, you are welcome to check them out in the ports tree. Zjail was started as an experiment to explore just how much can be achieved with ZFS and FreeBSD jails.
Some ZFS based features amalgamated in Zjail:
- jail cloning within seconds (no matter how big in size!)
- fully writable clones
- compressed and deduplicated jails
- hot clones and templating (while the jail is running)
- ZFS jailing
Great job, thanks a lot. Useful link for vnet newbbies like I am : wiki.freebsd.org/Image/VNETSamples to be compared with the start_stop subroutine in the zjail script.
Works, very small, no complaints.
