Zenoss Core is an enterprise network and systems management application written in Python/Zope. Zenoss provides an integrated product for monitoring availability, performance, events and configuration across layers and across platforms.
Zenoss is great, been monitoring 500 servers for the last three years. Always been great at alerting me to a problem.
as tony woudl say - its great !!
This project exists only to upsell users on a commercial version that gets more expensive as you manage more devices and stops working if you don't pay for it year after year. Look elsewhere for projects that offer all their features as Free (as in Freedom) software.
To the person who said that this project only exists to upsell a commercial version, you are *partially* correct. There is a commercial version of the software available. However, if you are willing to take the time to learn and develop Zenoss Core, you can mold it quite nicely to do whatever you need (and I'm not even a coder by trade, anyone with scripting experience who is willing to devote time to learning the product can do this). I manage 8 Zenoss Core servers monitoring over 1000 devices. Everything from Cisco gear, HP Switches, Windows Servers, Linux Servers, etc... It works perfectly fine. What you are ultimately paying for with the Professional and Enterprise versions is the support and certain enterprise features (which can be duplicated in Core with enough work). The beauty of this project is that there is an actual company driving it. It is extremely well maintained. Development occurs at a pace that is far superior to your average open source project. This is an excellent piece of software, and you really need to work with it for more than a day or a week to fully appreciate it.
Nagios gets a lot more of my votes

Best software at OLF!
fantastic
zenoss is powerful but just have so many technical things that make it not really easy to use, some competitor like zabbix is easier to use
