Yorick is an interpreted programming language for scientific simulations or calculations, postprocessing or steering large simulation codes, interactive scientific graphics, and reading, writing, or translating large files of numbers.

Very simple to install, very light... can be downloaded and installed in the $HOME of any machine in 2min.

there simply is no other scientific analysis environment like it. once you get use to its c-like syntax, yorick is very easy to use, and easy to custom tailor to meet very specialized needs, even to drive high performance computing applications. (the MPI variant mpy has been used to drive a laser-plasma interaction code on up to 192k cpus.) much smaller and more portable than python, yorick can even run very effectively on netbooks.
