Hi,
I am opening this bug-report for the people who experience “Bad file descriptor” errors while uploading binary files with yencee.
In my case, I have turned–on all sorts of PERL debugging options while posting binary files, to see what the problem is underneath the PERL layer.
I am now having a gut–feeling that Giganews (and other news–providers) do _something_ near the s.

Hi,
I have now turned–on all sorts of PERL debugging while posting some binary files. Because I did not get this error for several days, I was hoping I was experiencing the age–old “computer law” that says “everything will work while debugging” (lol). But this morning I did get this error once again. I think it is a timing problem with the news–provider, because this mornin.

Hi again,
I got another of these errors.
The syswrite to the server is producing this error. The $err var looks to be ‘empty’ (probably ‘undef’ in perl terms) at this time. The test for “$err < 1” is invoked, which prints the ‘$!’ string then dies. It is the ‘$!’ string that tells us “Bad file descriptor”.
I have changed that “die $!” message to print a.

Hi,
re: yencee griping about “Upload failed: Bad file descriptor”.
I am having this problem also.
For me, it is quite random — sometimes an entire file (splitted 800MB) can be posted without trouble, later another similar file will have this error, all to the same nntp server (Giganews in my case).
I have set “ulimit -n” (open files) higher and higher to no avail.
This...

The subject is really off for posting. IE. 'Commandline Test -yEnc- File 1/1 - testing.tar.gz'
First, there is no " between the file. It should be. 'Commandline Test -yEnc- File 1/1 - "testing.tar.gz"' If all possible, it would be nice to have the subject post the same as all the other subjects on usenet. On powerpost (for windows) I use 'Subject [File 1/1] - "file.ext" yEnc' Usenet index...

This patch changes the default subject line from "File x/y" to "File x of y" as requested in feature request 1552125.
Note, this does not add an option to choose between the two subject line formats, it simply changes to the x of y format.

The attached patch changes the visual feedback given by uencee as it posts files. The change reduces the amount of scrolling in the terminal by having each new part overwrite the "part XX: YY KB ..." line instead of adding a new line to the screen. This allows the line indicating which file is being posted, and the total part count for that file, to remain on screen where it is visible instead...
