There's something weird with this bug: I established a telnet connection on port 119 with respectively my local Hamster server, teranews & megabitz (e.g. C:\>telnet free.teranews.com 119). All three accepted authinfo user my_login and then authinfo pass my_password commands, everything was done using 7bit ascii characters so I don't see why yenc32 fails to authenticate with teranews and megabitz...

I couldn't connect to Teranews and Megabitz with Yenc32 1.0.8.208. A problem occurs during authentication, and if I simply check the box "My server requires me to login" and leave the password and login blank, Yenc32 doesn't prompt me, I simply keep getting the same error message.
This happens when I fill in my password and login in Preferences>Posting and then click on "Add" in...

Also, I need to add that if I right click, then chose either to encode or to decode with yenc32, it says,
"Could not execute yenc32 to decode/encode this file"
Nothing seems to fix this either.

I've had the same problem, and I appear to have the same setup as this poster. I just upgraded to 1.0.8. This update came out in May, but the bug report only came out a week ago in October. I can't believe that the bug has lain dormant all these months. Right-click menus in 1.0.7 still work, though. I've checked the source, where it tries to execute Yenc32; I didn't notice any material...

FYI, I had the opportunity to test this under Windows Millennium and the same problem occurs. Using yEnc32 v1.0.8, it's impossible to yEncode or to yDecode a file via the contextual menu obtained with a click on the right button of the mouse. (The installation was done using the default settings, all options were checked (yEnc 32 (required), Start menu Shortcuts, Right-Click Shell Integration)).

Click with the right button of your mouse on a file, then choose yEncode with yEnc32. You should get a window displaying "Could not execute yEnc32 to encode this file" (cf. attached screenshot). When you click on a file with the right button of your mouse and choose YDecode with yEnc32 a very similar window appears and tells: "Could not execute yEnc32 to decode this file".
Tested with yEnc32...

I have experienced the same problem just a few minutes ago. Firstly, I installed yEnc32 v1.0.8 under Windows XP Service Pack 2 and then uninstalled it using the add/remove software tool from Windows' setup menu. After that I wanted to install it again running the same downloaded .exe, but got the error you described.
The details of the setup window display the following:

Come up with the following upon installation...
Error opening for writing...
yenc32shell.dll
abort retry ignore
Cleaning registry entries between installs does not help.

Sorry about that. I submitted this item. Here's the output of my app when trying to use the yDecLib.dll:
