The XML PCB Render project is the beginning of a PCB (printed circuit board) development package aimed at small- to medium-complexity electronic projects. Version beta 1 provides the XML groundwork and a commandline renderer suitable for manually-designed PCBs. The renderer of beta 1 takes an XML description of a single-layer printed circuit board as input, and produces an image file (in industry-standard PNG format) suitable for printing onto transparency, ready for ultraviolet exposure. The XML file contains the location and size of pads and tracks, and also provides limited support for components. Future development will focus on increasing the XML capabilities, adding a standard component library, and adding a graphical front end.
