The goal of this project is to create an easily configurable, dynamic, wireless connection script so that users, especially laptop users, can connect to multiple networks that have WEP, hidden APs, even VPNs and run connect and disconnect programs easily

11/11/2004 -- wlan-config 3.1 released added static ip options changed gwlan-config to wlan-konfig to reflect kde naming scheme added default gateway option added resolv.conf options (dns1, dns2, domain) 11/09/2004 -- wlan-config 3.0.1 is released just added KDIALOG to the default config file 11/09/2004 -- wlan-config 3.0 is released small timing errors fixed in main script wlan-config now includes gwlan-config a kdialog "script gui" the README now points to the new man pages man pages and overall documentation MUCH improved example scripts are now included VERY simple install and uninstall scripts are included everything seems to be working really well for me the website is down, will get to that soon Changes for wlan-config 3.0: It is now suggested that there be an /etc/wlan-config directory This is in preparation for possible future changes to the config structure Right now, please place the wlan-config.conf file in this directory Future versions of wlan-config, may use a SystemV type of configure structure with directories and files for each network that you connect to. The wlan-config.conf file will then only contain the paths to programs and other program wide configurations. PLEASE email me, Joshua.Rubin@Colorado.EDU if you would like me to add anything to this program!!! Things I am thinking of are connection specific disconnect programs, do you guys want this? I have already implemented some big changes to speed up connection and disconnection times, let me know if you have any problems with the script not waiting long enough. The file /var/run/wlan-config now exists whenever wlan-config is connected, and is removed whenever disconnect is run. If that file exists when connecting to a network, disconnect is run first, otherwise it is not run, this speeds up connection a lot! The only problem I can think of is that if people configure their card without wlan-config, and the /var/run/wlan-config file does not exist, if they they run wlan-config, wlan-config does not know to disconnect first, there is no way I can control that though... The /var/run/wlan-config file is currently empty, however, I can implement changes that retain state information so that when disconnect is run, it knows what network to disconnect from... I dont know if I like or need that though... let me know. Also, I am beginning to work on a graphical interface using Perl\TK, let me know what you would like from that. so in summary: use /etc/wlan-config from now on know about /var/run/wlan-config think about a graphical interface and... MAKE SUGGESTIONS!!! (joshua@cybertron.cc)
