Wine is an Open Source implementation of the Windows API on top of X and Unix. Wine provides both a development toolkit for porting Windows sources to Unix and a program loader, allowing many unmodified Windows binaries to run on x86-based Unixes.
Wine can be difficult and frustrating to setup properly, but it has improved vastly over the last couple of years. It is still the best option if you have Windows programs that you HAVE to run in a Linux or BSD environment. Generally it is a good idea to remember that if you use Wine you have to be willing to post informative bug reports; and more importantly be willing and able to perform GIT-bisects to locate the source of the bug. The Wine Team pay little attention to bug reports without relevent debug logs and GIT-bisects.

It has been a long time coming, well over 10 years, but it was worth the wait. With every new version, twice a month, more Windows software works well enough to use.
A great and useful project.
a key tool for any linux user
me Love the entire project
I am glad, AVSynth and VirtualDub are now running under WINE.
Finally I can run my Photoshop Elements 7 on Ubuntu 9.10! Thanks! :)
Cool. But better if it will use C++ to improve scalability.
wine is such a good thing, do u agree? i like it man.
its good for games, may be and not very modern games, but... its better then nothing :P
It's quite an undertaking and works surprisingly well especially when it is taken into consideration that Windows isn't open source :D.
