If a pidfile is missing that the watchdog is looking for, a system reset is initiated. However, if a file is missing that watchdog is monitoring for timestamp updates, a system reset is NOT initiated. I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but it feels like it (and I had to work around it).

This looks like non-cleared memory to me. I will make sure that the buffer will be set to zero in the next version.

Yes, this directory is being used to store the stderr and stdout of a test or repair binary which is not logged into syslog.
