VirtuaWin doesn't remember last desktop

  1. 2009-11-03 18:57:26 UTC

After reboot Virtuawin doesn't remember the last desktop you used and defaults to Desktop 1. Not a huge deal but a little annoying. Shouldn't this be a simple thing to fix?

Something we have never considered, but should be solvable. But maybe you always want to start on a specific desktop? Then check here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/virtuawin/forums/forum/257054/topic/3353923

I fail to see the point of such an option. When you exit and restart VW it will put them all on desktop 1 (apart from the few with an auto assign window rule), so all this option would achieve is starting on an empty desktop most of the time.

To make this option of any real use, VW would need to restore all open windows to their last desktop too - this cannot be done. There was a long thread on this topic a year or so ago - conclusion being use windows Hibernate or Sleep feature.

Sorry for late reply I forgot about this post.

bjasspa: It's not that hard to understand. I have multiple desktops with different wallpapers on each of them (using Virtua Plus). Many times I feel like using a certain desktop because of that wallpaper. If I have to reboot I would like to continue using that same desktop. Couldn't you have VW automatically write the initialDesktop# you last used to the .cfg file when you exit VW?

jopi: I don't always want to start on a specific desktop. Otherwise I would just start on Desktop 1. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Implementing this would require a change in design to VW as VW does not current save anything at exit this is very unlikely to change. However, as Jopi suggested, you could exploit the startup desktop option by creating a small module which simply did nothing but store the current desktop until VW exits at which point it modifies this option in virtuawin.cfg file to the current desktop.

The page he suggested seems to be to configure VW to remember a specific desktop. But that sounds different from you're saying. Your suggestion seems to be a workaround that remembers the current desktop. Is that right? If so, how do I go about doing it?
