VAOS 6.3 Build 4 (6.3.0.4) This version of VAOS was released in May 2011. The C++ programs were built using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008. The Boost C++ library version is 1.46.1. The Pascal programs were built using Embarcadero Delphi 2007. The installer package was built using NSIS version 2.46 with the Access Control plugin. Upgrade Installations --------------------- If you have upgraded from an existing VA installation then all your settings will remain unchanged and your full messagebase will be available as before. If you upgraded from an earlier version of VA that did not use style sheets you may find that some aspects of the appearance of messages in the viewing pane have changed. This is because VA has not yot generated a style sheet containing your preferences. To correct this open the Tools | Options dialog, check your settings on the Appearance tab, and click OK. VA will then create a style sheet containing your preferences and messages should be displayed with those preferences. New Installations ----------------- If you made a fresh installation of VA the installer will have run the VA program once to build the initial messagebase folders. These are filled with useful messages explaining how VA works and it is useful to read through them. New installations of VA are set up with one VA user named "Admin", with the password "admin". You can use the user management functions within VA to create new users as needed, and then to delete the default "Admin" user if you wish. Remember that VA user names are not case sensitive, but that VA passwords are. If you asked the installer to create any internet or CIX services you will need to use the Comms Setup dialog (available from the File menu) to complete the setup of these services. The installer creates the file structure necessary for these services but does not fill in the details. Note that for the VAOS service the news server name and login details are set by the installer but you will still need to supply your own name and EMail address to complete the configuration. Spell Checking -------------- This version of VA is designed to support spell checking using an external spell checker program. An interface is provided for the free Open Source GNU ASpell spellchecker, which must be downloaded separately. The latest version of ASpell for Windows is 0.50.3 and this can be downloaded from here: http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/aspell/w32/Aspell-0-50-3-3-Setup.exe You will also need at least one dictionary, which must be downloaded separately from the ASpell application. Several languages are supported, and they can be downloaded from the links on this page: http://aspell.net/win32/ Further Help ------------ For further information please visit the VA DokuWiki at: http://dokuwiki.virtual-access.org/ Assistance can also be obtained by asking questions in the appropriate group on the VAOS newsserver (the installer can create a VA service called VAOS to access these groups). See: http://www.virtual-access.org/support/newsgroups.shtml Please remember that the help offered on these newsgroups is given on a voluntary basis, and that no guarantees are given.
